Should I PICK ONE?
So often I tell people to PICK ONE? Please focus on one product, one niche market, one business area of expertise! I started my blog focus (against all advice) with an eclectic focus. Has the time come to change my direction and PICK ONE?
Obviously no one reading this post today has the time to read an example of each post on my abbreviated eclectic list below but please pick one and tell me if it should be my exclusive focus? Or is eclectic right for me?

There is my NATIONAL ENQUIRER style and Return to US Denied attracted close to 10,000 views almost immediately. Definitely not my favorite style though I’ve proven I can do it; as I proved I could produce (& write for) Reality TV having done some of the first out there in the early 1990s, but after I did, I made the very conscious decision ” no shlock TV production for me ……. BTW this post is from my Images of Life blog. |

I’ve recently changed from a monthly article-like style post to a weekly shorter more “popular” format. This is obviously better for my social media presence (of course more frequent posts) however do my readers, many not on Social Media like this change?

One empathizes.
I tried separating things; using sub-domains to keep content topical and relevant. For a while, I jad something like seven blogs going. Finally pared it back to just three, and even just decided to scuttle social media topics to just use my personal site as a way to document my life.
We have so many ideas. It’s hard to choose. I suppose there are threads running through all our interests, so maybe this is a call for a blogging Renaissance. What makes all those topics interesting is YOUR take on them. People who care about YOU enjoy ALL OF THE ABOVE, Casudi.
From Bank-On-Rain to Perlita Too to Chinese architecture to sunsets to cats, I say keep at it.

Caroline, aloha. As a reader, I appreciate the diversity of topics on your blog. So my vote is: Stay Eclectic! Why? Because it is YOU.
So many aspects of life fascinate you and your exploration of whatever the topic may be, enlightens, educates and entertains me.
Your perspectives and your communication skills are much appreciated.

Caroline, Should you? Or can you write under a heading that gives the ability to cross your passions, life experiences, careers into your writing under one heading? I struggle with this as well. I went with GingerSpice as the blog header because my writing subject matter tends to cross pollinate varies subject matters but the common link is that relates back to my core self. Would be possible to create a space that you can write under that is your niche, and still be able to satisfy yourself and your audience by crafting your posts to weave in your thoughts all of yourself? Just a thought.

design is making connections. seeing the possibility in something that may apply to something else.
to stay in tune with this diversity and the potentials for connections, you have to look at–and question–everything.
a myopic viewpoint on a narrow subject band is not the right path to follow. the world already has too much of that.
stay open. stay eclectic

I’ve been traveling, mentoring a start up and unplugged but I haven’t forgotten to respond though I am quite a bit late.
Brian ~ Thanks for the vote of confidence. I’ll probably stay eclectic, multifaceted and all over the place with my interests ~ but it is challenging to keep consistency in the personal branding and I have to admit when I find what appears to be this type of “all over the place” in others, I am fast to advise “pick one” Thanks for your continuing comments and input on Designing Success.
Janet ~ Great to get your feedback and know you like the eclectic focus of what admittedly is me. Thanks for underlining so well what I am hearing from many.
Jen ~ I’ve sure tried to decide what my niche is, but keep coming up with the niche of eclectic! Just about everything I write about has the thread “Designing Success” as part of it, so maybe that is indeed my appropriate umbrella! Thanks for your addition here, always appreciated.
Fishead ~ So fab you came and commented here. I have to tell you I really miss our conversations in “Twine” comments, the most notorious being the one with the investor in gold coins ~ I forget his name but remember the conversation. Thanks also for underlining the eclectic and stating that ” a myopic viewpoint on a narrow subject band is not the right path to follow”.
Jane ~ Both, head and heart have told me, are telling me “eclectic is my path” and this was true when at least a dozen people advised me to pick one! Thanks.
